Synopsis:
The Apple’s Skin
Our story opens in a hospital. Pip is about to be released to her brothers’ custody. He is her only remaining family member. At least, that’s what they tell her. She likes this man well enough, even though she doesn’t remember him beyond the pleasant visits they have had together. In fact, he seems fond of her.
During one of the visits, he tells her that she was a writer, and although that may be true, she has no memory of this either, with one exception. She keeps having memories of a short story that she has written and a compulsion to find her story. Her brother volunteers to take her to the family home to look for it.
During the drive and the stops along the way, flashes of her story appear, then disappear. Why can’t she remember?
Conflict:
The conflict lies with Pip. Why can't she remember? Will she ever recover her memory? If she does, what will she learn? As for her brother, (if he is her brother) why doesn't he just fill in the gaps?
Thoughts:
Although I haven't written a short story in a long time, I hope to give it a real go.
