Let them shit in the woods and wipe their ass with moss: My husband is perfectly comfortable with pooping in the woods, or on the side of the road at any given moment. He will use whatever is nearby to wipe such as green fuzzy moss, a piece of bark from a dead tree, or large leaves. This is very foreign to me, as a woman. I suppose most of this comes from his time as a “grunt” in the Marine Corp. They had to spend extensive time in the woods for training and had to learn to make do with little and survive off the land. One of the exercises in the jungle in Philippines was to survive for a week on half a pound of rice, cooking in a bamboo plant over a fire, adding mice, snakes or whatever else you could eat for protein. Even though he is long out of the Marine Corp, these habits die hard and even though we have perfectly good porcelain toilets in our home, he still manages to poop outdoors way more than I would like to admit. I’m done trying to convince him to stop pooping outdoors. It’s a guy thing. It’s a Marine thing. It’s a cancer survivor thing. I will just have to learn to live with it and keep walking as the passersby rubber neck as they catch a glimpse of him behind a scraggly tree and pretend I don’t know him.
