My elevator pitch is something I’ve dreamt about but never constructed in my head. I when I first came up with this story it was fueled by a desire to watch, not read, about “happier times .” With this in mind as you might have guessed conflicts were not high on my priority list , but a part of life and as David has pointed out, a necessity for a good story. My story is about a middle aged woman who after discovering her husband has cheated on her , decides to take the type of vacation she has always wanted but never “allowed “ to take , to process the demise of her 20 plus years of marriage. She is a refined woman of means and lands at an exclusive resort in the Caribbean only to elude the much needed quiet she is desperately seeking. So she moves on until she lands on a small , remote, sparsely populated island where she meets a variety of unlikely ex pats who she discovers she has a lot more in common with than her group of marital friends back home. Within these newly formed relationships she becomes a confidant, caregiver , friend , and protector . All is fine and dandy until she returns one of the many calls from her husband where he delivers another blow; they are financially ruined and he has probably implicated her in his illegal machinations. So one of the conflicts for my protagonist is trust. Trust in men, love , and the ability to survive on her own, assuming she isn’t heading to jail, without any financial means for the first time in her life. Another conflict for her is whether or not she can “just stay” and live her life out simply here or return to be near her young adult daughter. She battles with the guilt of putting herself first.
My goal that I would like to accomplish is allowing someone to actually read what I’ve written. I think 3 ,hopefully polished , chapters is attainable. But we’ll see. I’m not sure who I would like to read it so tag David, you’re it!
