There are SO many songs that give me the feels. One that I love is called Unsung Hero by For King & Country. It is about a son who is singing about his mom falling in love, getting married, having him etc. And then the song continues to when he is doing all of those things. And the chorus really gets me.
Words fall short but I am sure there'll never be anyone like you, you're strong like your father even when you are scared
When I was in trouble you never left
And you love like your mother, like there's nothing to lose
You're an unsung hero, Like there's nothing to lose. You're an unsung hero so I'll sing this song for you.....
The songs lyrics make me think of my 3 boys. Hoping they are proud of me, hoping they realize all I did and sacrificed for them.... then my thoughts to go my parents, and the love flows....they were young and so special. Then my thoughts to go me, when I was a young woman, how I was strong like my father (or I related to his strength) and loved like my mother, like there's nothing to lose. She loved so completely well. So this song is a legacy song and legacy is very important to me in general and in my writing.
Another song i love is called Motto by NF
He's a Christian rapper and I just love his lyrics. He seems to real and no fluff. Like take him or leave him. That has served him well in his career. He hasn't bought into the things most do to become famous....
Here are the lyrics:
I could write a record full of radio songs, do a bunch of features that my label would love
Do a bunch of features that I don't even like, just to build up the hype
Yeah
I could sell my house and move out to LA
Get inside rooms with the biggest of names
Hire fifty people just to give me advice
On the way I should write
Oh, God
Yeah sounds like a nightmare if you ask me
Yeah, went from my bedroom to the big leagues
You know how many times I was told things
Wouldn't work but worked out, having cold feet
Didnt keep me from success, but delayed it some
I used to be the guy who'd kill to get a number one
I had to hear "That song's a hit" before I thought it was
But nowadays I don't really give a (What)
Oh God,
Might catch me at the award show
Eatin' popcorn in the back row
Catchin Z's with my hat low
No nominations bit it's cool though
Oh God
You might see me in the same clothes
I had on a last week, am I ashamed? No
You heard the saying "If it ain't broke, dont fixt it"
That's my mottor
Yeah ..... and there's more
I think i love this one and alot of his music because his lyrics are something I can relate to. I don't really want to "play the game" to be super popular. Id rather write something meaningful on my own terms.
As far as novels go, I love reading Karen Kingsbury and Nicholas Sparks both of which weave the stories into something with a point to it or a surprise in it. A Walk to remember is one of my favorites. This is the book that hooked me for Nicholas Sparks.
Funny though I've been into writing non fiction so far. Someday I'll write something fiction and they will be my models!
